Building a Financially Successful Private Practice

Many talented and skilled therapists in private practice are feeling discouraged because they make too little money. Faced with a competitive marketplace and the pressure to accept lower fees, many therapists wonder—is it still possible to be a therapist in private practice and earn a good living?

Conference Day Program

This full-day workshop (6 CEUs) helps therapists take important steps to be smarter about the business of therapy by focusing on the role of money. It is designed for both new and experienced clinicians who want to create more profitability. First, participants will explore their own underlying beliefs and attitudes about reconciling service and profit that, when unaddressed, can sabotage a therapist’s best efforts. Then the workshop will shift to several essential and concrete strategies that help any practice, large or small, become more viable and lucrative. The workshop is a mix of lecture, discussion, and interactive sharing so that participants leave with clear ideas to improve their practices.

In the morning (9 am—noon) with Lynn Grodzki, participants will:

  • Know the top ten questions about money that every private practice owner needs to ask herself or lynnhimself to keep the practice on track.
  • Recognize why the first contact with potential clients always starts with a negotiation—and how to negotiate with confidence
  • Learn the best strategies to keep expenses low
  • Review a checklist of steps to fill your practice with more full-fee, private pay clients
  • Protect your practice by setting and raising fees the right way, without losing clients
  • Consider creative ideas including the use of packaging and diversification of services to increase earnings

In the afternoon (1 pm—4 pm) with Widmann Financial Services, participants will:

  • Learn about retirement planning options for private practitioners and small business ownerswidmann
  • Determine the right business structure (LLC, Sole Proprietor, Inc.) for your practice
  • Learn how to handle small business taxes: It’s not what you make, it’s what you keep!
